BNI                                                            Friday 11th November 2011-11-06

Why, you may ask, are we talking about something called BNI? For those who don’t know BNI stands for Business Networking International. As a BNI member Browse-A-While Antiques and collectables have found many new clients, opened doors that were otherwise closed and importantly uncovered antiques and collectable items for our clients.

The BNI organisation works by creating a group of professionals from various industries and encouraging regular passing of referrals.

·         Each chapter allows one person per occupational classification, and prospective members must be approved via an application process.

·         BNI's philosophy is "Givers Gain" - members are expected to focus on giving referrals to other members to build relationships and receive referrals in return.

·         BNI draws a distinction between a "referral" and a "lead." A lead is contact information for a prospect for a member's business, while a referral occurs only when the prospect has already expressed interest in the business in question, and is ready to be contacted by the referred BNI member.

·         Chapters have specific rules regarding required attendance in order to cultivate the relationships needed to create a comfort level in referring business.

·         Chapters track the monetary amount of passed business in order to prove the value of the financial and time commitment.

As a member we get an opportunity each week to ask for referrals to contacts who we feel will help grow our business.

This week we are again looking for sound introductions into charities. So, if you know a member of a charity at director level or a charity fundraiser, please feel free to pass on our details. We would love to talk to them about raising more money for their organisation.

Web Site Update.                                             Sunday 6th November 2011

For those of you who are regular visitors to our web site you will have noticed a few changes taking place.

The old web site was dated and although it functioned perfectly well for us it did cause one or two minor headaches. So we have bitten the bullet and decided to update the web site. This will take place over the coming months.

What’s new? Well for certain items you can now buy directly without having to contact us first.

However, we still feel the personal touch is best so our old favourites, Cigarette Cards, Postcards, stamps and the more expensive items still require you to contact us to arrange the purchase and payment. We feel that way you as a buyer will feel more comfortable and trusting of us and we get to know more about you and your needs.

What else have we done? We have altered the layout of a number of pages and included links to our Twitter, Linkedin and Ebay accounts. Feel free to join us.

We are always on the lookout for individuals who we can contact for information about items we find. We don’s know it all but we have a great network of individuals who increase our knowledge base.

We are also trying to increase our contacts and will in the weeks to come be introducing a members area and providing a facility for individuals to opt in to a newsletter.

We are not perfect and mistakes are sometimes made. So, we would encourage any constructive feedback from our visitors to this site.
